At 2 am the choice is usually a ceiling light that floods the room or a phone torch held in one hand. Neither is kind to anyone still asleep. This is a small cordless night light: a tapered white shade on a rounded base with a wood-grain finish, small enough to sit beside a book on the nightstand. Switched on, the whole shade glows a soft white, and on its lowest level it gives just enough light to see the bed, the door and the glass of water. The light has three brightness levels. Keep it low through the night for a feed, a
nappy change or a trip down the hall, and turn it up when you want to read for a few minutes
before sleep. The shade spreads the light, so even on the highest level you look at a soft glow,

Inside is a 1,200 mAh rechargeable battery. Charge it with the cable in the box
from a USB wall adapter (charging input 5 V / 1 A, the same as an ordinary phone
charger), then unplug it and carry it to wherever the night needs a little light. No cord across the
nightstand and no socket to find in the dark.
